Industrial visit to National Rubber Corporation Ltd-An attempt to inculcate practical learning in MBA students


“Any fool can know, the point is to understand”-Albert Einstein. The same is applicable in real life where one may be having rough idea about everything but the concepts become clearer only when things are learned practically. In an attempt to make MBA students understand the theoretical concepts taught in classrooms, an industrial visit to National Rubber Corporation Ltd was organized by Baba Farid College of Management & Technology (BFCMT) on 25th February, 2014. The company was established in 1989 to produce and Promoted by a firm with 45 Years of experience and conviction in the trade, the production facilities and management is located at Amritsar, INDIA. The company specializes in manufacturing of in all types of Quality Conveyor Belts like: rubber conveyor belts, steel cord conveyor belts, PVC conveyor belts, Rubber sheets. As many as 40 students of MBA-IV semester had visited the company premises accompanied by faculty members: Mr. Sandeep Arora and Ms. Baldeep Kaur.

On behalf of the company Mr. Vishal Saini accorded a warm welcome to the students. The students were directed towards the conference hall and discussed in brief the milestones of the company. Mr. Saini started the session on a very interactive note and gave a brief overview of the company and its diversified operations. He further explained the way it evolved as a leading company in the market and touched upon the crucial factors like supply chain management, raw material sourcing, manufacturing process of conveyor belts etc.

Thereafter the students were taken around the manufacturing plant to demonstrate the actual operations of the company. Mr. Saini explained the entire process in a very sequential manner from rubber chemical to finished product testing and eventually shipment of the same. The students were amazed by the fully automated process where human touch was almost negligible. In the last, the students were made to visit the laboratory and explained various parameters like intrinsic strength, temperature and longevity etc. He further discussed the way company leveraged its technical know-how and became a globally accepted company with continuous focus on R&D. The company exports its products to countries like:             Atlanta, Australia, Bangladesh, Dubai, France, Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherland, New Zealand and United States etc.
