Industrial Visit to GNA Dura Parts Ltd by Baba Farid College of Management and Technology – An attempt to redefine the process of learning things

It is rightly said that reading creates only flow of information in the mind but the actual learning comes by doing the things and applying the same in real time situations. The practical and theoretical learning must converge in order to visualize things the way these are explained. Baba Farid College of Management & Technology (BFCMT); has taken one step ahead in its custom to redefine the process of learning by providing practical exposure through industrial visits along with classroom teachings. Recognizing the need to provide an opportunity to quickly learn the things, the institute had organized an industrial visit to GNA Dura Parts Ltd, Mehtiana on. It is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of automotive transmission components. The company has a large customer base which includes Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, JCB, Caterpiller etc. covering different sectors of the automotive industry and a diversified product range. As many as 57 students of MBA 1st year went for the visit accompanied by faculty members: Mr. Parminder Singh and Ms. Nandita Goyal.

On behalf of the company, Ms. Amandeep Kaur- HR Executive accorded a warm welcome to the students and directed them to the conference hall. She started the session with a general discussion on company and gave an overview of the company’s operations and explained the way it evolved as a leading company in the industry. She also touched upon some key financial figures of the group to provide insights about the financial health of the company.


The students came across the design shop, the testing laboratory, the materials store and the production shop floor and were explained the sequence of manufacturing processes. In the last, the students were taken to Research and Development (R&D) department and explained it as key parameter for success in manufacturing industry. She further discussed with management students that how the company leveraged its technical know-how and became a globally accepted company with continuous focus on R&D. The students realized the practical significance of theory based concepts in their curriculum. They really appreciated the efforts made by officials for providing in depth details and the latest developments in the industry. The officials were also impressed with the eagerness and the spirit of the students to learn new things.

The thrilling academic tour was filled with more joy and fervor when; on the way back to Bathinda; the students visited “Dera Baba Murad Shah Ji, at Nakodar”. The place has a great significance in the history and it is believed that any wish made from true heart is always approved from here.  The students had a very learning as well thrilling experience whose impact would be irreversible on their professional growth. They always get benefitted from these kinds of visits where the practical and theoretical knowledge converge with each other. Further, it helps in increasing their knowledge horizons since they get an opportunity to move over and above the boundaries of books.Indeed an unforgettable experience that students would like to have over and over again !!!
