Baba Farid College of Management and Technology Organized Industrial Visit to HMT Limited, Pinjore

Baba Farid College of Management and Technology, organized an industrial on 24th August, 2013 to "Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) Limited-Tractor Division, Pinjore", a leading public sector undertaking based out of Bangalore, engaged into providing engineering services. As many as 42 students of MBA 2nd year went for the visit accompanied by two faculty members Mr. Saurav Bansal and Ms. Pooja Grover. On behalf of the company, Mr. M.K. Sharma accorded a warm welcome to the students and the faculty members. Mr. Sharma provided a brief overview and the historical background of HMT group and explained how it emerged as a leading engineering company not only in India but in overseas markets also, through its collaborations in the United States of America, France and Switzerland.

Thereafter, the students were taken around the manufacturing plant to provide them insights about the production process of tractors & automotive parts. He explained the entire process in a very sequential manner. The students came across the design shop, the testing laboratory, the materials store and the production shop floor and were explained the sequence of different processes. In the last, Mr. Sharma took the students to Research and Development (R&D) department and explained it as key parameter for success in manufacturing industry. He further discussed how the company leveraged its technical know-how and became a globally accepted company with continuous focus on R&D. The students realized the practical significance of theory based concepts in their curriculum. The officials were also impressed with the eagerness and the spirit of the students to learn new things. On the way back to Bathinda, the students visited the “Pinjore Garden” renamed as 'Yadavindra Garden' in recent times. One of the students told that they had learning as well exiting experience whose impact would be irreversible on their professional growth. They always get benefitted from these kinds of visits where the practical and theoretical knowledge converge with each other as it helps in increasing their knowledge horizons since they get an opportunity to move over and above the boundaries of books.
